DOWNLOAD EBROCHURE ON THE WESTERDAM
The ms Westerdam is the third in Holland America Line's series of Vista-class ships. As such, she embraces the latest industry and environmental technologies. Most of her staterooms have ocean views and many have private verandahs. Staterooms are an average 25% larger than on comparable ships. On the ms Westerdam, more than 800 of the rooms are outsides. They provide TVs, showers, phones, double closets and robes. The basic stateroom is between 183 and 207 sq ft, while staterooms with verandahs are about 250 sq ft. Suites run from just under 400 sq ft for basic set-ups to the immense penthouse verandah suites, which are more than 1,300 sq ft.
The ms Westerdam completed all Signature of Excellence enhancements to her public rooms and staterooms in Spring 2005. The enhancements focus on accommodations, service, dining, itinerary development and enrichment programs and activities. Examples include "As You Wish" dining for open seating, a new Culinary Arts Center program for kids, and the expansion of shore activities to include private touring options in port
With a length of 951 feet and a beam of 106 feet, she weighs 82,000 tons and carries 1,848 passengers. She is registered in the Netherlands and has an international crew of 800.
On this ship, two outside glass elevators look out on 100-mile views. The Greenhouse Spa is the most luxurious in HAL's fleet, proffering herbal and oil massages and a wide variety of treatments. Entertainment is staged nightly in the two-tiered show lounge, and a casino, dance lounge and cigar room will provide other options. The Explorer's Lounge is the place for chocolate and espresso during the day, and movies and popcorn at night.
The two-level Vista dining room serves from an extensive menu. Pinnacle Grill, offering Pacific Northwest fare, is a more intimate setting, but it requires reservations. The casual Lido Restaurant has numerous dining stations. Quick lunches are available at the poolside Terrace Grill, while coffee drinks are whipped up in the Jave Cafe.
The Vista-Class ms Westerdam joined the Holland America Line fleet with its christening in Venice on April 25 of 2004. On board, guests will enjoy a space-per-person ratio unsurpassed by any other ship in the HA fleet.
This new Westerdam is the first ship to be delivered under the aegis of a new Holland America initiative called "Signature of Excellence," (2006) a $225 million effort to enhance the fleet in five important areas: cuisine, stateroom amenities, service, onboard activities and new destinations.
There are new, custom-made mattresses which are incredibly comfortable, Egyptian cotton sheets with a high 250-thread count, large extra-fluffy cotton towels and deluxe waffle and terrycloth robes.
Premium massage showerheads and 5X magnifying make-up mirrors with halo lighting and salon-quality hair dryers have been added. Passengers are welcomed with a complimentary fresh fruit basket . All suites have new duvets, fully stocked mini bars, VCRs or DVD players and personalised stationery.
The ms Westerdam dazzles guests with more of everything they desire on a cruise ship: more staterooms with verandahs for private dining and relaxing; more dining choices from fancy dress-up dinners (including the reservation-only Pinnacle Grill experience) to casual pool-side dining; more ways to be pampered, like in The Greenhouse Spa and Salon, the largest and most luxurious spa in our fleet.
Dining
Webster's alternate dining venue, the Pinnacle Grill at the Odyssey Restaurant, offers "Pacific Northwest" cuisine. Table settings are elegant, featuring Bvlgari china and Riedel stemware. Reservations are required and there is a $20 per-person charge.
The Vista Dining Room serves breakfast, lunch and dinner; each night's menu features a selection of five entrees. Service is broken into four assigned seatings -- 5:15pm., 6:15pm, 8pm. and 8:30pm, which helps promptness of service, and guarantees piping hot entrees.
The Lido Deck buffet has been broken into small stations to minimize lines. At lunch, each of these stations offers a distinct menu: Italian, deli, salads, Asian stir-fry, etc. At breakfast, you can get eggs cooked to order and breakfast meats at most of the stations. At dinnertime, the Lido offers casual, waiter-served, made-to-order menu items. Late night buffets are presented after 11pm.
One new Vista-class addition is the nautically themed Windstar Cafe, which sells (for a fee) espresso, coffee and pastries.
Twenty-four-hour complimentary room service includes a menu of snacks, sandwiches, desserts and salads, a full breakfast menu (available from 6am - 10am), and a complete lunch and dinner menu is offered from noon - 10 pm, as is the daily menu from the Vista Dining Room during scheduled dining hours.
The Greenhouse Spa includes an 11x22-foot hydrotherapy pool with heated seawater and high-powered jets for soothing tired muscles. Cost for access to the pool is $15 per day, and one may come and go at leisure. Another $15/day option is the thermal suite, which includes steam rooms, dry saunas and aromatherapy shower rooms with citrus and spice-laden mists raining down. Between sessions, relax on heated tile chairs and watch the world go by through picture windows.
